Alternative Model: Collette Von Tora!

I was perusing the online Facebook posts of my favourite magazine 'Bizarre' when I came across this beautiful model, 'Collette Von Tora'. She was the winner of the Bizarre Magazine Ultra Vixens Competition 2010 and has since taken the alternative modelling scene by storm, participating in countless photoshoots with experimental, beauty, fashion, horror, social and editorial themes. So refreshing to see another beautiful woman with body modifications and a shaved head!

New Hair For The New Year!

I decided to shave my head completely to start off the new year! It's always refreshing to do something new with your hair - it doesn't have to be anything overly radical - even a simple trim or colour can make you feel more confident! Research hairstyle aesthetics that you've always wanted to try, find a qualified hairdresser then go wild!

Pin Up & Punk Up!

This dress is one of my favourite pieces! I particularly love how it hugs my curves. I usually team it with a black cardigan and lace up boots.

SAG Awards 2013: The LBD!

Just a few fantastic fashion gems at the recent SAG Awards! The 'Little Black Dress' has been transformed into one of the biggest statement pieces, taking centre stage on the red carpet. Anne Hathaway, Jane Lynch & Kelly Osbourne demonstrated how the simple LBD can be a bold expression of style with just a few creative details.

DIY Fashion: Knit Your Own Scarf!

If you want to create your own fashion pieces, knitting is a fantastic place to start! Simply find a colour of wool that appeals to you & pick up a pair of needles from your local haberdashery store.

Remember to start simple - my very first knitting venture is the classic scarf! If you're new to the whole process, ask a friend with experience to help you. Sometimes it is much easier to have a one on one lesson than to follow written instructions. Set aside a date on your calendar and have a knitting party.

Worship your wool!

Retail Therapy: Be A Smart Shopper!

Just a few things to remember when you are wandering around a store that will save your hard-earned cash!

#1. Be selective! Just because you like it, does not mean it 'needs' to be in your wardrobe. Take a moment to consider your purchase. Will it compliment my existing wardrobe? How often will it be worn?

#2. Stay true to your own style! Look at each item with the opportunity to express your individuality, rather than keeping in the back of your mind what is 'in' and what isn't.

#3. Vintage pieces are special! Don't buy every vintage dress or pair of heels you have your eye on. Instead, consider each item carefully and choose one or two statement pieces - remember quality, not quantity!

#4 Comfort is key! If you're constantly adjusting the straps on your dress, tugging at the waist of your jeans or squeezing yourself into the smaller sizes, it will only end in tears. It's important to sacrifice style for comfort - find a piece that has a similar visual vibe or hunt around for a better size that flatters your shape.

#5. Shop around! Just like our groceries, fashion can be found in many different places. So don't rule out secondhand stores or the smaller boutiques, they often have great prices for unique quality items. Expand your knowledge of local retail establishments.

Fashion Icon: Eleonora Carisi

I am always looking for fashion inspiration, especially in the world of bloggers, artists, photographers, musicians and graphic designers. You know, those people with a knockout sense of style you wish you could be for just a moment, that feel like a rockstar just by slipping on a pair of sunnies and every outfit in their wardrobe makes them look as delicious as rainbow gelato?

One such woman is Eleonora Carisi, an Italian fashion blogger, who has recently rocked the fashion world with her eclectic ensembles, which use bold colour, radical prints, cute oversized cardigans, statement accessories and a dash of vintage to create a style that will blow your mindhole.

Pierce Me!

Ever wanted to express yourself in a completely new - and totally punk-rock - way? Needing confidence? Piercings may just be your style antidote.

I think it is a matter of personal taste what metal you decide to get - I started with a simple nose stud then progressed to a lip piercing and most recently, a septum ring. Everyone is an individual, so be as wild or as tame as you wish! Consider symmetrical or asymmetrical placement and consistency in the type of jewellery for aesthetic balance.

Sometimes your employer may place restrictions on body piercings - especially facial piercings - so it is crucial that you establish the appropriate level of metal for your particular workplace. And remember to do your research, find a professional piercing establishment and follow aftercare procedure to avoid infection.

Tie-Dye Is Not Dead!

I am a hippy at heart and one of my favourite patterns to wear is tie-dye. It's quite easy to find pieces made from dyed fabric or if you want to experience the process for yourself, just visit your local art supplies store and pick up a DIY kit.

To make your tie-dye a real fashion statement, team it with black or a solid colour which matches the pattern and remember to keep your accessories simple, yet bold - such as chunky jewellery in gold or silver.

Secondhand Doesn't Always Mean 2nd Best!

One of my favourite pastimes is to browse secondhand stores, opportunity shops and markets for unique fashion pieces that accentuate my current wardrobe for the fraction of the price.

In recent times, it's become a trend to venture into one of these establishments in search of pieces that reflect the fashion aesthetics visible on the runway and high street shop windows. But, if you expand this concept,  you can use these stores as a tool to create an individual style and initiate your own trends.

Every single rack you sift through will contain threads that reflect so many different fashion genres and although you may have to rummage through several racks of trash before you reach the treasure, you will not be dissappointed by what you find.

Therefore, I will have a regular blog post segment dedicated to this topic, mostly to share with you my purchases, but to also offer advice from time-to-time based on my knowledge of the secondhand industry.

Today I purchased:

Corset - $6.99
Wooden Bracelet Cuff - $3.99
Faux Gold Feather Pin - $3.99

So...I've popped my fashion blog cherry!

I have finally landed in the world of fashion bloggers!

If you're reading this post, you have landed upon my blog, probably a result of my excited Facebook spamming or even because I managed to bribe you...for which I sincerely apologize.
But hey, you're here now. So it can only get better (at least I hope so!)

So...hello! My name is Rhayven Jane. I am an artist, writer, photographer and aspiring alternative model. I decided to start up my own fashion blog this year to showcase my personal style, share inspirational material, study the social & cultural impact of fashion and document my journey into the creative industry as an art student.

Still interested?
I shall be posting on my blog again within the next few days, so watch this space!
